Course Name: Elementary Statistics
Course Description:
- Statistical data: nature and sources of data, qualitative and quantitative data. Classification and Tabulation methods. One way and two way classifications. Graphs and diagrams. Frequency distributions, relative and cumulative frequencies. Graphical Presentation. Characteristics of frequency distributions. Measures of location and dispersion for ungrouped and grouped data. Moments. Measures of skewness and kurtosis, Sheppard’s correction. Introduction to Exploratory Data Analysis.
- Official Statistics: Definition, sources and types of official Statistics and maintenance of its quality. Hierarchy of Statistical systems of Pakistan (F.B.S, S.B.S, State Bank of-Pakistan)
- Time Series and Index Numbers: Components of. Time Series, Analysis of trend, short time, periodic & random movements. De-trending and De-seasonalization and uses of time series. Types of Index Numbers, their methods of construction and uses inflation and deflation, shifting of base and splicing.
