Course Description:
a) Pakistan’s Economic Trends and Performance from 1947 to 1997: Pakistan’s Basic Economic Indicators; Growth and structural changes; The Social Services; Pakistan and Asian Economic trends; Pakistani and SAARC countries.
b) The Agriculture: Role of Agriculture in the Pakistan’s Economy; Major trends in Agriculture; Land Reforms; Green Revolution; Key Issues in Agriculture (Pricing policy, Taxation, Credit, Marketing, and Mechanization.
c) The Industry; Growth, Employment Efficiency and Performance; industrial Strategies in different phases; Small Scale and Large Scale Industry; Industrial Credit; Privatization.
d) Balance of Payments: Trade Policies; Commercial policy; Exchange Rate Policy and Devaluation.
e) Monetary Policy: Objectives and Control; instruments.
f) Financial Sector: Money and Capital Market; Commercial Banking.
g) Fiscal Policy: Objectives and Control; Deficit Financing; Current Budget.
h) Foreign Economic Assistance: Foreign Aid; Debt Servicing Problem.

Course Review:
The purpose of this course is to give acquaintances with Pakistan’s economic trends and efficacy from 1947 to up to date, the role of agriculture and industry in Pakistan’s economy, balance of payments, monetary policy, fiscal policy, foreign economic assistance, and infra-structural services and communication. Special emphasis is placed on the financial sector.
